About Us

The Applied Astronomy Group (AAG) at Yunnan Observatories, Chinese Academy of China, as a creative research group, is developed on the basis of research concerning adaptive optics. Since the mid-seventies of the last century, the group have begun to develop a number of items, including satellite laser ranging (SLR) and lunar laser ranging (LLR), together with the establishment of related systems.

Yaoheng Xiong, a researcher, is in charge of the group containing thirteen settled members, two of which are of high professional title, and seven of associate high professional title, as well as four of intermediate professional title. In addition, there are eighteen mobile staffs in the research group, in which three PhD students, four postgraduates, ten observation assistants and one rehire personnel are taking participate.

The research group has engaged in a large amount of projects, such as 863 subject, photoelectric observation of spatial objects and fragments, state natural sciences fund, joint fund of astronomy, China continental network project in Kunming station, GNSS stations, CAPS in Kunming station.

Our research group is mainly orientated towards satellite laser ranging (SLR), Lunar laser ranging (LLR), photoelectric detection of spatial targets, orbit determination, high-resolution imaging, photometric measurement.

At last, it is always significant to fight for our research goal that developing astronomical technology with satisfying the national strategic demand.
