Yaoheng Xiong—tutor of PH.D. student, chief researcher—has been focus himself in Yunnan Observatories since 1983 on a wild variety of research fileds, including astronomical optics, astronomical instruments and methods, adaptive optics, satellite laser ranging, photoelectric detection of spatial targets.
He also made a cooperative development in international advanced laser guide stars for adaptive optics system, as a visiting scholar over 1994 to 1996 and a guest professor during 2002 to 2003, with the department of astronomy at university of Illinois, mean while being in charged in amounts of 863 programs.
